An article quoting the secretary of the People’s Movement for Protecting Schools Nagasthanne Aruna Thero was published on the Mawbima newspaper today.
The headline of the quoted article read “Arts subjects to be eliminated from the education system – People’s Movement for Protecting Schools”
Furthermore, Nagasthanne Aruna Thero had stated that officials have taken the decision based on new educational reforms, highlighting that aesthetic subjects help to build a disciplined individual.
FactSeeker investigated the authenticity of the said article. The media division of the Education Ministry confirmed that the article is false.
The Education Ministry had published a statement regarding the said claim.
The statement stated that aesthetic subjects can be studied in primary, secondary and higher education and students can appear for aesthetic subjects in the G.C.E. Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations.
Accordingly, FactSeeker confirms that the article published in the newspaper is false.
