A study by the research group World Weather Attribution found that the flooding was caused by a glacier eruption near Gilgit in northern Pakistan on August 10, 2025.
They further reveal that the glaciers erupted due to a 10% to 15% increase in rainfall from June 24 to July 23 due to global warming.
Also, the flood situation in northern Gilgit is the highest in ‘Hunza’ and ‘Nagar’ in Pakistan since 2018, Assistant Director of Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) Zubair Ahmed Khan had told Pakistan’s DAWN e-newspaper.
Similar flooding conditions were reported from various parts of Pakistan, including Giyayul Nala in Skardu district of Pakistan.
