Given the rapid spread of comments and exchanges about this, Factseeker undertook the responsibility to look into the matter.

The investigation checked whether such news had been reported by major media outlets and whether there were any reports of such an incident in the Thambuththegama area. It was confirmed that no such reports existed.
Further investigation into whether this image was created using artificial intelligence revealed that it was indeed an AI-generated photo.
As a result, Factseeker confirms that the image of the largest and heaviest fish, purportedly found in a waste-disposal drain in Thambuththegama, was created using artificial intelligence.
