FactSeeker has identified a misleading image being shared online, particularly on the Instagram page of TamilMirror and several other homepages. The image is falsely claimed to depict a landslide on the Kotmale–Pundaluoya road.

Upon verification using Google Lens, it was discovered that the image does not correspond to any location in Sri Lanka. Instead, the photo is from a landslide on U.S.30 east of Astoria, Ore., USA, which occurred on November 30, 2022.

Actual location: highway near Astoria in northwestern Oregon. USA (2022)

Authentic images of the recent landslide on the Kotmale–Pundaluoya road have been published by mainstream media, including Sooriyan News.

The viral photo does not show a Sri Lankan landslide but is an old image from the United States. Therefore, FactSeeker confirms the claim to be misleading.
