A misleading video is being widely shared on Facebook claiming that West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph set a world record by taking six wickets in six balls (a single over) during an international Test match against Australia.

The video has been shared by several users, including a Facebook page named “SLAS SLEAS GK Leading Sri Lanka,” and has gained significant traction.

The Facts

No such record exists: No cricketer in the history of international cricket (Test, ODI, or T20I) has ever taken six wickets in a single over.

Manipulated Content: The video is a digitally altered version of the second Test match between West Indies and Australia held in January 2024.

Actual Performance: According to the official scorecard, Shamar Joseph delivered an incredible performance, but not in a single over. He bowled 11.5 overs, conceded 68 runs, and took 7 wickets to lead his team to a historic victory.

Conclusion

Factseeker confirms that the video claiming a world record of six wickets in one over is manipulated and false. While Shamar Joseph’s 7-wicket haul was a legendary feat, the claim that they occurred in a single over is entirely inaccurate.
