False News Circulating Claiming April 15th Is a Public Holiday

FactSeeker has observed multiple posts being shared on social media claiming that the government has declared April 15th a public holiday in celebration of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. These posts are accompanied by an image that appears to be an official statement from the Department of Government Information.

However, upon examination, it was found that the date and signature sections of the shared document have been removed. Further investigation revealed that the image is a manipulated version of an official statement originally issued on April 10th, 2024.
As of now, the government has not announced April 15th, 2025, as a public holiday. Additionally, the Director General of the Department of Government Information, H.S.K.J.Bandara, has issued a clarification stating that the news being circulated is false and that the Department has not issued any such announcement.
Therefore, FactSeeker confirms that the social media posts claiming April 15th has been declared a public holiday for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year are false.
