He urged President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to honor his presidential election promise by implementing a program for 35,000 graduates.
The Opposition Leader emphasized that filling 30,000 government job vacancies is a separate issue and reiterated that the promise made to 35,000 graduates must also be fulfilled.
Since this claim has sparked widespread debate, FactSeeker launched an investigation.
An analysis of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s manifesto, which was released during the last presidential election, confirms that it includes a pledge to provide job opportunities for 35,000 unemployed graduates.
Meanwhile, during the presentation of the 2025 budget, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced the formation of a committee for unemployed graduates and youth. He also stated that a plan to recruit 30,000 individuals to fill essential vacancies in the public sector would be implemented.
However, in his budget speech, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake did not directly address the issue of the 35,000 unemployed graduates.
