Was a statement made by NPP’s Maulavi Muneer Moulafar

FactSeeker observed a statement quoting NPP’s National Executive Committee member Maulavi Muneer Moulafar, stating that no Muslim should be afraid of the policies in the NPP manifesto circulating on WhatsApp.

This quoted statement was allegedly published on the ‘ShortNews’ news website.

The article states, “One of the main aspects of our policy declaration is that we have given space to homosexuality (LGBTQ). Nowhere in Islam is homosexuality declared forbidden. No Muslim national should be afraid of our policy,” Maulavi Muneer Moulafar had allegedly stated.

Several requests made to FactSeeker to verify the authenticity of the article, prompted us to investigate the said claim.

Investigations revealed that Maulavi Muneer Moulafar had not made such a statement, and the ‘ShortNews’ website had not published such an article.

Director of ShortNews, Mohamed Rashmin stated that no such news article was published on their website. He also mentioned that the alleged news was published using their website’s logo and name without authorization.
Additionally, ShortNews has published a statement denying the publication of the news item. The link statement is as follows.

When inquired from Maulavi Muneer Moulafar about the alleged statement, he stated that he had not said such claim to any media outlet, and that the circulating opinion is not his stance.

Accordingly, FactSeeker confirms that the messages circulating on WhatsApp is false.
