FactSeeker investigated this matter as many believed it to be true, sharing it widely on social media.

FactSeeker inquired with the Atamasthana Chief Incumbent and the police at Ruwanwelisaya to verify whether a monk was seen levitating near the Ruwanwelisaya on or around Poson Poya day. They confirmed that no such incident was reported.

Further investigation into mainstream media revealed that media outlets had not reported such an incident.
Further investigations revealed that the video was created using VFX.

Chandi Ranaweera, who created the video, clarified its origins:
“This is a creation made with 3D and VFX, not AI. As a Buddhist, I made this based on an idea I had. No one should take it seriously or feel distressed by it. This is just a creation. Don’t take it seriously.”

Despite the creator’s warning, many who saw the video on social media were misled into believing that the video was real.

Accordingly, FactSeeker confirms that the video showing a monk levitating near Ruwanwelisaya is misleading.
