Misleading Videos Unrelated to Sri Ganganagar Minor Rape Case Flood Sri Lankan Social Media

Misleading

FactSeeker has confirmed that real, older videos of unrelated incidents are being misleadingly shared out of context to represent the Sri Ganganagar minor gang-rape.

A serious criminal investigation into the exploitation and gang-rape of a 13-year-old girl in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, has drawn widespread regional attention. Following this incident, local social media platforms have been flooded with graphic video clips. While these videos depict real events, they are being shared with entirely misleading captions, falsely claiming to show the victim’s hospital statements or immediate “street justice” being handed out to the perpetrators.

The actual case, however, has seen standard legal procedures, with Sri Ganganagar SP Hari Shankar confirming that 14 suspects have been arrested and illegal hotels linked to the crime demolished by authorities.

The FactCheck Investigation

FactSeeker initiated an investigation into these online claims after identifying that multiple Sri Lankan Facebook profiles, pages, and X (formerly Twitter) accounts were aggressively cross-posting these traumatic clips with misleading local context.

Our digital forensic check confirms that both viral videos are real but entirely unrelated to the Rajasthan incident. They have been misattributed to the Sri Ganganagar case, as verified by Aaj Tak Fact Check and other regional networks.

Video 1: The Alleged Victim’s Hospital Video

The Claim: Social media users in Sri Lanka and India shared a highly distressing video showing a minor girl crying and speaking from a hospital bed, alleging it was the direct deathbed testimony of the Sri Ganganagar rape victim.

Forensic Verification: On July 4, 2026, the Rajasthan Police clarified on X that the video was fake and unrelated to their jurisdiction.

The Real Context: A reverse image search of the video frames by India Today Fact Check confirmed the footage actually originates from Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, depicting an 11-year-old girl rescued after an unrelated assault on June 22, 2026. The actual victim from the Sri Ganganagar case is alive, safe, and recovering under protective care.

Video 2: The Public Flogging of the “Culprits”

The Claim: A second heavily shared clip shows a large group of men being publicly tied with ropes, dragged, and beaten with batons by officers amidst a massive crowd. Captions across Sri Lankan social media assert these are the “32 rapists” of the minor being penalized on the streets of Rajasthan.

Forensic Verification: Case logs and press records from march 2026 confirm that this footage is from Maharashtra, not Rajasthan.

The Real Context: This video was filmed in Kalyan, Maharashtra. According to official police records, it documents a strict local police crackdown against members of an extortion racket and auto-rickshaw gang who violently assaulted public commuters. It has absolutely nothing to do with sexual assault.

FactSeeker Verdict: FALSE

Both videos being circulated within Sri Lankan social media clusters are completely detached from the Sri Ganganagar case. Sharing graphic footage of unrelated minors or distinct gang arrests under fabricated headlines violates platform safety terms and compromises factual reporting across borders. Netizens are strongly advised to check for official verification before sharing sensitive regional content.
