Ishara Sewwandi, who was wanted in connection with the murder of Ganemulla Sanjeewa, had fled Sri Lankan security forces and was staying in the Thibbas Park area of Bhaktapur District, Nepal, when she was arrested in a special operation conducted recently by Sri Lankan authorities.

The incident drew significant attention on social media, and several political figures also shared their views on the matter.

Among these, FactSeeker identified a social media post claiming to quote MP Mujibur Rahman.

The post, which carried the logo of a major local television channel, stated: “The public gains nothing from Sewwandi’s arrest.”

FactSeeker found no official record or news report confirming that such a statement was made.

Further FactSeeker discovered revealed that MP Mujibur Rahman is currently not in Sri Lanka. He is in Barbados in the West Indies, participating in the 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference, along with several government MPs.

It was also discovered that Mujibur Rahman released a video on social media clarifying the situation: Watch the video here.

In the video, he stated that he did not make any such comment and confirmed that he is currently in Barbados attending the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference. He emphasized that the circulating statement is entirely false.

He also issued a clarification on his official Facebook account regarding the matter: Mujibur Rahman’s Facebook clarification.

Accordingly, FactSeeker confirms that the claim suggesting Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Mujibur Rahman made a statement about the arrest of Ishara Sewwandi is false.
