Several videos have been widely circulating on social media claiming that Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra mobile phones are being offered under a Rs. 680 promotion by Daraz, one of Sri Lanka’s largest e-commerce platforms. These videos appear to feature popular cricketers Kumar Sangakkara and Lasith Malinga, along with former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

FactSeeker conducted a detailed analysis after Kumar Sangakkara posted a message on his official Facebook page stating that he is not affiliated with any advertisement involving DARAZ or Samsung, and urged people to disregard any such promotions featuring his likeness. He also revealed that these videos had been generated using AI technology.

Upon examining the “Promotion Daraz” Facebook page that shared the video featuring Sangakkara, FactSeeker observed that multiple similar promotional videos featuring the faces of Lasith Malinga and Gotabaya Rajapaksa had also been posted.

However, it is clearly evident that this is not the official or verified Facebook page of Daraz. Further observation of Daraz’s official Facebook page showed that none of the advertisements shared by “Promotion Daraz” were reposted or acknowledged there, confirming that “Promotion Daraz” is a fake Facebook page.

To further verify the authenticity of the videos, FactSeeker conducted data analysis using the Google AI Image Checker website, analyzing still images taken from the videos. The results showed that over 90% of the content in these promotional videos was generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Additionally, upon reviewing Lasith Malinga’s official Facebook page, FactSeeker was able to identify the original video used to create the manipulated one. It was confirmed that footage from a live video where he discusses his cricketing experiences in the book titled Killer had been repurposed for the fake advertisement.

That video can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1AZ4G5dYwN/

FactSeeker confirms that “Promotion Daraz” is a fake Facebook account and that all promotional videos claiming Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra phones are available under a Rs. 680 offer—featuring well-known individuals—have been falsely created using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
