April 25, 2025

FactSeeker has observed several social media posts claiming that police security, including VIP-level protection, was provided for an event organized by Hayeshika Fernando, a private educator known for conducting Grade 5 scholarship classes.

On April 17, 2025, Hayeshika Fernando hosted a felicitation ceremony at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). The event was attended by students who had participated in her online classes and their parents.

Following the event, videos circulated on social media showing Hayeshika Fernando arriving in security vehicles. These visuals sparked public speculation, with some users questioning how an ordinary citizen could receive such security. Claims soon spread suggesting she was provided VIP protection by the government.

What FactSeeker Found

A video uploaded to the YouTube channel Sudaa Creations featured a security request letter, dated April 2, 2025, sent by H.M.C. Viswajith on behalf of Hayeshika Fernando, Director of Queen’s Educational Group. The letter was addressed to Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya and was forwarded through the Prime Minister’s Office.

The letter requested police security not for Hayeshika Fernando personally, but for the large crowd—students and parents—expected to attend the event. It emphasized logistical concerns due to an anticipated attendance of around 30,000 people.

When contacted by FactSeeker, a spokesperson from the Prime Minister’s Office clarified that while the office facilitated the communication to the police due to the event’s expected scale, no directive or request was made to provide personal VIP security to Hayeshika Fernando. Furthermore, the office confirmed that no official vehicles were allocated to her and that any such vehicles seen were not deployed under orders from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Conclusion

There is no evidence to support the claim that Hayeshika Fernando received personal or VIP-level security from the government or the Prime Minister’s Office. Security arrangements were made exclusively for the safety and order of the large crowd attending the event.

FactSeeker confirms that the claim of VIP protection for Hayeshika Fernando is false.
