As a result, numerous reports have been shared across both mainstream media and social media platforms. Among these, several videos claiming to show flood situations in Sri Lanka have been widely circulated, prompting FactSeeker to determine their accuracy.

Upon reviewing the content, FactSeeker took steps to verify whether the footage in question was indeed filmed in Sri Lanka.

Using Google Reverse Image Search on several frames from the videos, it was discovered that the images were linked to incidents in other countries, including Italy and Pakistan, and had been shared widely across social media platforms globally.

Further investigation led to the identification of one video, showing floodwaters flowing through a large golden Buddha statue, which was found to be related to a flood incident in the Chitwan region of Nepal. This was confirmed through a news report published on September 28, 2024, by the Republica website.

Additionally, another video showing a massive flood flowing through rows of houses and trees was analyzed. Based on the architectural style and landscape, it was determined that this video did not match the geographical features of Sri Lanka. Instead, the scene closely resembled the characteristics of European countries.

Furthermore, a video showing a large mudslide near a red-colored building was identified as being from Japan. FactSeeker located a video on CNN World that confirmed this incident occurred during a landslide in Japan.

It was also discovered that claims of the video being from Italy were false. A related article clarified that the video was actually from a mudslide in Japan in 2021.
