This Post Resurfaces 2022 Swarnavahini news on Ranil’s Interim Government Statement.

April 24, 2025

A social media post currently being shared claims that “Ranil is ready to form an interim government if the people want it,” citing Swarnavahini TV’s Live at 8 news bulletin.

However, FactSeeker investigated and found that this claim is based on old news. Swarnavahini has since rebranded its main news bulletin from Live at 8 to Live at Sri Lanka.

Using Google Reverse Image Search, FactSeeker discovered that the original post was shared on the Swarnavahini News Facebook page on April 17, 2022. It was based on a statement made by Ranil Wickremesinghe during a discussion with transport union representatives during the 2022 protests.

Conclusion:
This is not a recent news report. The viral post is misleading the public by presenting a 2022 statement as current. FactSeeker confirms that the information being circulated is outdated and taken out of context.
