Misleading

A statement attributed to National Executive Member of the National People’s Power (NPP) Nalin Hewage circulating on social media, claiming that “a system is being created so that every family can purchase a Vitz motor vehicle for 1.2 million rupees” caught the attention of FactSeeker.

The video to his statement is linked here – https://youtu.be/o20Z8pWHnOI

Hewage envisions an economy where every household could own a vehicle within ten years. However, he does not explicitly state that a Vitz would be available at such a price point.

Additionally, Toyota has ceased production of the Vitz model since 2019, due to a decline in sales in Japan. Commissioner of the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT), Nishantha A. Weerasinghe, highlighted that the import ban on vehicles imposed in 2019 has further restricted the availability of Vitz vehicles in the country.

Accordingly, FactSeeker confirms that the alleged statement made by Nalin Hewage is misleading and misinterpreted through posts exchanged on social media.
