As the heat of the presidential election is increasing day by day, there are a lot of discussions building up around the topic day and night, be it transparent discussions or secretive conversations.

Meanwhile, President Ranil Wickramasinghe recently deposited the security deposit as an independent candidate for the upcoming presidential election.

Within the cyber space there were several news circulating about the president contesting for the election with the “heart” logo. Is this true? We asked factseeker about this.

When contacted, UNP General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara explained that there has not been a definite decision taken regarding the logo of representation for the upcoming election.

Factseeker continued to dig more on the matter and contacted the Election Secretariat to see if a political party had been registered with the “Heart” logo. Election commissioner Saman Sri Rathnayake stated that there is no political party being represented with the “heart” logo. He further stated that last year there was an application to register a political party under the heart logo, however that application was rejected. He continued by explaining the “heart” logo is actually not a replica of the human heart but a symbol of love. By this we understand that although there is news claiming that the president applied for the presidential election through the heart logo, the information proves to be untrue. Factseeker confirms that no political party is being represented through the “heart” logo.
