M.A. Sumandiran and Rasamanickam Shanakyan, met with members of Ranil Wickremasinghe’s party, as reported on Sirasa TV’s main news broadcast.

FactSeeker came across a Facebook post suggesting that A Sumandiran has stated that President Ranil Wickremesinghe admitted his inability to win the election during his meeting with A. Sumandiran.

Did the President actually make such a statement?

We looked into this meeting as presented in the news broadcast of Sirasa Channel. Ranil Wickremasinghe only mentioned that he requires the support of the Tamil community to demonstrate that he had the backing of all sections of the society, and the President was aware that winning this election would be a challenge. The news release from Sirasa TV can be found at

Accordingly, A Sumandiran, MP has not explicitly stated that Ranil Wickremasinghe cannot win the election; rather, the MP has only mentioned that a strong effort will need to be made for it.
