False Claim About Lifetime Free Entry to Dehiwala Zoo Shared on Social Media

The claim that lifetime free entry passes are being offered to the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens is false.

FactSeeker has observed that posts claiming lifetime free entry passes to the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens are being shared across social media platforms.

These posts originate from a Facebook page operating under the name ‘Dehiwala Zoo’.

According to the circulating post, five individuals would be granted lifetime free entry passes to the Dehiwala Zoo. It also instructed users to comment “සුභ උපන්දිනයක්” (Happy Birthday) in order to participate.

As the post began to receive numerous comments and engagement, FactSeeker investigated the authenticity of this claim.

When contacted by FactSeeker, Mr. Dushyanthi Dammiika Dasanayake, acting Director of the Animal health and nutrition at the Department of National Zoological Gardens, confirmed that no such free passes are being issued. She further stated that an official announcement regarding this matter has been published on the department’s verified Facebook pages, and that a complaint has also been filed with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Therefore, FactSeeker confirms that the Facebook page operating under the name ‘Dehiwala Zoo’ is fake, and the claim that lifetime free entry passes are being offered to the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens is false.
