FactSeeker observed posts were being shared on Twitter that during the excavation of Kokkuthoduvai Mass Grave, corpses of those who were ‘lined up, hands tied, blindfolded and traces of being shot dead were recovered’

When FactSeeker queried Mullaitivu District Judicial Medical Officer Kanakasabapathy Vasudeva, who is directly monitoring the excavations, said, “While the excavations have been ongoing for the past seven days, so far no corpses have been found with their hands tied up and blindfolded.”

He further clarified, ” Two lawyers on behalf of the Association for Disappeared Persons visited directly to monitor the work since the excavation work started on the 6th August. Also, some civil representatives and the police are involved in the monitoring process, but no such shreds of evidence were found,”

conclusion

Therefore, FactSeeker verifies that the Twitter posts mentioning the corpses found at the Kokkuthoduvai Mass Grave were of those ‘lined up, hand-tied and blindfolded with traces of being shot dead’ are misleading.
