A Facebook page falsely claiming to represent U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Julie Chung, has been operating for some time. Following public concerns about its authenticity, FactSeeker launched an investigation.

What We Found
FactSeeker’s analysis revealed that the page closely mimics content posted by Ambassador Julie Chung on her official X (formerly Twitter) account. This includes statements, photos, and videos. The impersonator page has amassed over 6,000 followers, with users actively engaging through likes and comments.

Her official X page is here,

https://x.com/USAmbSL

The page was created on September 21, 2022, and began posting regularly from October 2022.

To assess the legitimacy of this account, FactSeeker reviewed the official Facebook page of the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka, which had issued a public warning clearly stating that the page impersonating Ambassador Chung is fake.

When FactSeeker exclusively contacted the U.S. Embassy’s Media Officer, Ms. Cori Bickel, she confirmed that the Facebook account in question was fake. In addition, the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka has released a media statement warning the public about this impersonation.

Further signs of inauthenticity included the misspelling of the ambassador’s name as “Julie Chang” in some posts—another red flag.

Conclusion
Based on official confirmation from the U.S. Embassy, including a direct response from its Media Officer and a media statement, along with FactSeeker’s independent review, we verify that the Facebook page impersonating Ambassador Julie Chung is not genuine.
