FactSeeker investigated this claim after it gained significant traction.

Sunita Williams, who spent nine months aboard the International Space Station, recently returned to Earth on SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft. Following her return, multiple posts began circulating on social media, suggesting that Williams had taken a photo of the Maha Kumbh Mela event in India from space over the past two months.

After reviewing both Indian and international news outlets, FactSeeker found no official reports to support this claim. Further investigation, including an analysis of the photo using Google Lens, revealed that the image circulating online was actually released by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), not taken by Sunita Williams from space.

Official reports have also confirmed this information. Therefore, FactSeeker confirms that the social media posts claiming “Sunita Williams took photos of the Maha Kumbh Mela from space” are false, and the photo in question was actually provided by ISRO.
