When FactSeeker contacted MP Harini Amarasuriya in this regard, she said that she had not made such a statement and that the posts shared on social media was completely.

A statement stated by the National People’s Party MP Dr. Harini Amarasuriya about the Kandy Dalada Procession is being widely circulated on social media.

The matter was investigated following a request received by Factseeker to look into the matter.

“If elephants are not used, the Dalada procession can be performed by the Buddhist people even under our rule – Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim, we can all parade together,” was mentioned on the posts shared.

It has been published on a website called “dasatha News”.

Therefore, FactSeeker searched “Dasatha News” Website, their Facebook page, and YouTube channel on or near the date mentioned here, but FactSeeker could not find it.

It was also investigated whether this had been reported in the mainstream media but there was no such reporting.

Attention was also drawn to the statements made by Harini Amarasuriya during public rallies of the National People’s Party on the same day or nearby days, but there was no evidence that such statements had been made.

When FactSeeker contacted the Media Unit of the National People’s Party in this regard, they said that Harini Amarasuriya had not made such a statement.

When factseeker contacted MP Harini Amarasuriya in this regard, she said that she had not made such a statement and that this was a completely inaccurate statement.

Thus, factseeker confirms that this is a false statement.
