As commenters shared their views claiming that the incident took place in Sri Lanka, FactSeeker stepped in to fact check the context of the video.

FactSeeker observed that mainstream media had not reported the incident, and further observations revealed that the individuals captured in the video were not Sri Lankan though they appeared to look similar.

A Google reverse image search and an investigation conducted using the InVID platform verified that the video was shot in the Tenkasi town of Tamilnadu, India.
The flood was a result of the intense pressure of the Old Courtallam waterfall which occurred on May 17 this year.

Accordingly, FactSeeker verifies that the video circulating on social media claiming to be shot in Sri Lanka is misleading.
