Two individuals who are running for presidency in the upcoming presidential election have caused confusion due to them having the same name.

One being the son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and a well-known political figure the other is a practicing lawyer.

Concerns about voter confusion led to discussions in both traditional and social media, prompting FactSeeker to address this issue.

Lakshman Namal Rajapaksa, also known as Namal Rajapaksa, is an SLPP candidate contesting the presidential election.

Hailing from a political family background, with his father is former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. He has been a member of Parliament (MP) since 2010, and has served in cabinet positions across various Ministries.

The name, Lakshman Namal Rajapaksa is included in the list of candidates who have submitted their cash deposits for the presidential election in accordance with the announcement by the Election Commission.

However, the list of nominations released by the Election Commission mentions Namal Rajapaksa.

Election Symbol – Envelope

The candidate list for the presidential election includes Rajapaksha Arachchilage Namal Rajapaksha, who is contesting for the Samabima Party.

He is a professional lawyer, and his election symbol is an Envelope.
