Among the suspects are the victim’s boyfriend and six other schoolboys. This case has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with users sharing photos claimed to be of the suspects and the victim.
However, an investigation by FactSeeker revealed that the circulated images were artificially generated using AI tools and are not authentic representations of the individuals involved. It was confirmed that no mainstream media outlets published genuine photos related to the case.

FactSeeker’s analysis highlighted that the shared images displayed inconsistencies, such as identical facial features among individuals and uniforms that do not align with those worn by students in Sri Lankan government schools. Further scrutiny confirmed that these images were created using AI, with a confidence level exceeding 90%.

The incident has raised concerns about the misuse of AI tools to create misleading content and the importance of verifying the authenticity of such materials. FactSeeker emphasized that none of the shared photos are connected to the actual suspects or the victim.
