FactSeeker also identified fake videos spreading across social media featuring public figures such as Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and popular cricketer Kumar Sangakkara. Upon investigation, it was revealed that these videos were generated using AI technology.

Investigations further showed that the fake videos used the official Daily Mirror logo. However, after reviewing the official website, it was confirmed that no such videos were published there. Continued investigation led to the discovery of a link circulating on social media that appeared to be from the Daily Mirror website. This site was examined in detail.

It was found that the website had been designed to closely resemble the official Daily Mirror site. All of the news articles featured on it were fraudulently presented to promote various money-making schemes. The names of actual journalists employed at the Daily Mirror were also misused as the authors of these fake articles.

FactSeeker contacted Daily Mirror regarding this matter. The Editor-in-Chief (news website) Sunil Jayasiri, confirmed that their official website is https://www.dailymirror.lk/ and that the circulating website is indeed a fake. He further stated that a complaint has been lodged with the Cyber Crimes Division and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
