The post in question states, “Professor Meththika Vithanage from the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Sri Jayewardenepura University has decided to support the presidential candidate of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.”

To verify the authenticity of this claim, FactSeeker contacted Professor Meththika Vithanage who stated that she had never met Sajith Premadasa in-person. She confirmed that the photograph included in the post is fabricated.

Additionally, she provided the original photograph used to alter the image, which was taken at an Annual Research Review of the National Institute of Fundamental Studies (NIFS) on March 28.

The image was also posted on NIFS’s official Facebook page.

In response to our inquiry, SJB’s media unit also confirmed that that the image was altered.

Accordingly, FactSeeker confirms that the post claiming Professor Meththika Vithanage’s alleged support for Sajith Premadasa in this presidential election is false.
