A video of Maumita Debnath, the murdered doctor who was a student of RG Kar (RG Kar) Medical College in Kolkata, which shocked the whole of India, is going viral on social media in what is believed to be a video of her last moments sent to her mother.  The video is being shared on YouTube, TikTok, Facebook and Instagram in Sri Lanka, claiming that it was a video sent by Maumita Debnath to her mother at her last moments.

The body of Maumita Debnath, who was pursuing her master’s degree at the (RG Kar) Medical College in Kolkata, one of India’s oldest medical colleges, was found in a hall of the hospital on Friday, August 9. Police have found injury marks that suggests she was terribly sexually assaulted before her death.

FactSeeker observed a video that appeared to be her last moments before the tragedy, was spreading fast on social media in India as well as Sri Lanka. FactSeeker did not find that the international media had reported that Dr. Maumita had sent such a video to her mother. When we observed the video, we found that the image of the girl in the video was not the same as the face of the murdered doctor.

An Indian fact-checking website, fact crescendo confirmed that the video has been circulating on social media since at least August 15 and its first source has now been removed from social media. It further states that the last moments of the deceased Dr. Maumita and her pain were shown as creative content to depict her pain. For further reading.
