When Factseeker asked Ravi Karunanayake in this regard, he stated that there is no truth to these social media posts whatsoever!

A post was circulated on social media stating that Ravi Karunanayake, the National Secretary of the United National Party, had announced that he would become the Prime Minister after Ranil Wickremesinghe was elected as the President.

“When Ranil became the president, I will be the prime minister. Ravi Karunanayake Says” were mentioned in multiple pages and they were published in a way as if it was quoted on a front-page headline of a national newspaper in Sri Lanka.

When Factseeker investigated this, we confirmed that such a headline has not been published in a national newspaper recently. When Factseeker asked Ravi Karunanayake in this regard, he stated that there is no truth to these social media posts. Ravi Karunanayake further stated that he hopes to take legal action against the parties who made these false advertisements. Accordingly, FactSeeker confirms that the above social media posts circulating indicating that it is a statement made by Ravi Karunanayake are in fact false.
