A statement circulating on social media claimed that tomorrow (May 22) has been declared a national school holiday due to prevailing adverse weather conditions.

When inquired by the Ministry of Education whether an official holiday has been declared, the Ministry confirmed that the statement was false, and issued a statement regarding the claim.

“The Ministry of Education informs that the announcement circulating on social media that all schools in the island will be closed tomorrow is false.”

“Therefore, the Ministry of Education announces that all schools in the island will be open tomorrow (22),” the Ministry said in the statement.

The Ministry further stated that the authority to make decisions based on the current situation lies with the Provincial Education Secretaries and Provincial Education Directors.

Accordingly, Fact Seeker confirms that the statements circulating on social media claiming that tomorrow (22) has been declared a national holiday is false.
