False

There are posts circulating on social media claiming that new currency has allegedly been printed featuring the portrait of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake caught the attention of FactSeeker.

The posts claimed that both the Rs. 5000 and Rs. 1000 notes with his portrait have been issued.
As appeared that the images were edited at first glance, we observed whether mainstream media had reported the alleged printing of new currency. However, no such reports had been published.

Cabinet spokesperson MP Vijitha Herath told FactSeeker that currency featuring the portrait of Anura Kumara Dissanayake had not been published.

Following this, Factseeker examined the alleged notes through tools such as Search Any Image with Lens, Forensically, and FotoForensics, and it was evident that the images were indeed edited.

Furthermore, the actual photograph of the edited banknote circulating on social media is the Rs. 5000 note that was discovered in 2015.

Accordingly, FactSeeker confirms that the alleged currency circulating on social media is false.
