False Claim: Vatican Boycotting Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith

False
False

This post being circulated misuses a legitimate photo.

April 24, 2025

A post circulating on social media falsely claims that “the Vatican has decided to exclude Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith from its future activities due to his involvement in politics.” This follows his recent visit to the Vatican to attend Pope Francis’ funeral.

FactSeeker investigated the claim, which is being linked to the Esana news website. While the site did publish a photo showing Archbishop Ranjith traveling to the Vatican—similar to the one used in the viral post—it has not published any news about a Vatican boycott.

In an interview with FactSeeker, Fr. Jude Chryshantha, National Director of Catholic Mass Communications in Sri Lanka, stated:

“There is no truth in the message being shared on social media.”

Conclusion:
The claim that the Vatican is boycotting Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith is false. The circulating post misuses a legitimate photo and falsely attributes a fabricated story to a credible news outlet.
