Did the President say that the salaries of the Members of Parliament will be increased if they act well?

A post is being circulated on social media with President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s photo saying “If Members of Parliament act good, their salaries will be increased”.

The post stated that the President said that if the members of parliament support him, their salaries will be increased. Further, the post is being shared on social networks and many people have responded with their disapproval.

Fact Seeker verified if this was posted on the official Facebook page and the a5news website since the prepared post claimed that it was published on the a5news website. However, Fact Seeker could not find that kind of post.

Due to this, it was investigated whether the President had made such a statement and it was not found that any news with such a statement was published in the President’s statements and official social media accounts.

In this regard, in the inquiry made by Fact Seeker from the Presidential Media Division, it was stated that the President has not made such a statement and that this is a false statement.

Accordingly, Fact Seeker confirms that this is a fake edited post
