Did Harin resign from his Ministerial post?

Posts claiming to be the alleged resignation of the Sports Minister and Minister of Tourism and Lands Harin Fernando have been circulating on social media.

The letter which was said to be written by the Minister was addressed to President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

FactSeeker stepped in to investigate the said allegations.

The letter dated April 6, carried the official signature of the Minister and appeared to be printed on a letterhead of the Minister.

Did the Minister submit his resignation?

When FactSeeker inspected the Minister’s social media accounts, as noted that he had not posted such resignation. However, he had confirmed in his X account that the letter was fake.

FactSeeker also observed that mainstream media had not reported on the Minister’s resignation.

When FactSeeker inquired about the incident from Minister Harin, he said that he did not resign from his ministerial post.

However, he said that he disagrees with the cabinet’s decision to increase visa fees.

Accordingly, FactSeeker confirms that the letter stating the resignation of Minister Harin Fernando on social media is fake.
