However, multiple mainstream media outlets accurately reported that it was actually Dhammika Dasanayake, the former Secretary General of Parliament and Secretary to the Constitutional Council, who had submitted his resignation, effective 15 May 2025.

The conflicting report by Divaina prompted Manjula Gajanayake, Managing Director of the Institute of Democratic Reforms and Electoral Studies, to raise concerns in a Facebook post, sharing a screenshot of the original article.

Following the confusion and public scrutiny, FactSeeker confirmed that Divaina had removed the original article from its website. On 12 May 2025, the publication issued a correction, stating that the news item published on 10 May had incorrectly named Dhamma Dissanayake as the official who resigned. The correction clarified that it was in fact Dhammika Dasanayake, the former Secretary General of Parliament and Secretary to the Constitutional Council, who had stepped down. The mistaken identity was acknowledged and rectified by the outlet.

Based on the evidence and subsequent correction, FactSeeker confirms that Dhammika Dasanayake has indeed resigned from his position as Secretary to the Constitutional Council, effective 15 May 2025. The original report published by Divaina was inaccurate due to a name and identity mix-up involving Dhamma Dissanayake, but this was formally corrected on 12 May 2025. Therefore, the claim regarding Dhammika Dasanayake’s resignation is true, while the initial version of the news story was misleading.
