Has UNHCR – SRI LANKA released a survey report regarding the upcoming presidential election?

It is common for polls regarding the results of an election to take place. Some survey reports are real survey results and some reports are fake reports.

Survey reports have also started to be released regarding the presidential election to be held at the end of this year.

Meanwhile, a survey report issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was being shared on social media platforms yesterday (14).

A report consisting of 28 pages on a letterhead with the official seal of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was being shared on a social media page called Aragala News.

“UNHCR Sri Lanka report will be leaked within an hour. Sajith wins in 2024. The compass is a 339% increase in votes. More than two million voters are surveyed. “ 

It has been stated that this report is a survey done by 330 university students in 20 days and that people’s opinions have been obtained representing every constituency in every district.

According to this report, it is indicated that in the upcoming presidential election, Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the Samagi Jana Balavega, will get the highest percentage of votes, 36.31 percent, while the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna will get 34.53 percent. It has been stated that the current President Ranil Wickremesinghe will be in the third place with 16.35 percent of the votes and the National Peoples Power will be in the fourth place with 10.59 percent.

Here, the official website of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the official social media accounts including the face book were checked and no such report was mentioned on any platform.

Also, they had published in their official face book that the above survey shared through social media was not conducted by the Sri Lanka office of the United Nations Human Rights Council and it is a completely fake report.

Accordingly, Fact Seeker confirms that the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has not published a survey report regarding the upcoming presidential election.
