A social media post captioned ‘ MAS Holdings closes two factories’ also had been circulating recently.
When FactSeeker queried the Head of Communications at MAS Holdings with regard to the authenticity of the above social media posts and news stories, he clarified that MAS Holdings does not have two factories in Mihintale and there is only one factory.
He stated that the news story that two factories have been closed
is completely false.
Referring to the above news story he clarified that the Mihintale factory has not been closed down and the employees have not been evacuated, however explained that the factory is only temporarily closed and the salaries are being paid to the employees.
He further stated that the reason for the temporary closure of the Mihintale factory from 25 August was due to the declining trend of global orders in the garment sector.
Also, there are more than 40 factories belonging to the MAS Holding Group, employing more than 80,000 employees.
Therefore, FactSeeker verifies that the reports in regard to the closure of two factories of MAS Holdings in Mihintale and thousands of employees losing their jobs are misleading rumours.
