Which party planned to appoint Jerome Fernando as MP?

Two main oppositon parties in Sri Lanka have emphasized that they have not made any promise to appoint Pastor Jerome Fernando as a national list MP.

The pastor is currently out of the country after making a controversial statement. While President Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed the police to investigate his statement, many other organisations and individuals have aslo filed complaints against him to the police.

Meanwhile, the weekly online newspaper Chatham street journal reported that a leader of an opposition party had promised to appoint him as an MP through the national list.

When Factseeker inquired about it, Eran Wickramaratne, Member of Parliament of the main opposition Samagi Jana Balawega, said that his party has not taken any such decision. He also mentioned that his party has not had any internal discussions regarding this matter.

The General Secretary of Janata Vimukthi Peramuna, Tilvin Silva, also told FactSeeker that his party has not even discussed such a thing.

Meanwhile, Pastor Jerome Fernando, who is currently abroad, has apologized for his controversial statement.
