Are these posts threatening parents and students true ?

A social media post claiming that youngsters under the age of 18 who post love songs and non-educational content through online will receive rehabilitation while their parents face a three-month jail sentence and a one lakh rupee punishment, has caused a lot of controversy.

This post is being shared mentioning that “Three months imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh for parents who present love songs and non-educational shows of children below 18 years old through online and two years of rehabilitation for the children who made the videos.”

Fact Seeker observed that many people have shared this post on social media saying that this is a press release which was issued by the government with the state logo.

Accordingly, Fact Seeker investigated its authenticity and found it as a fake notification.

Cabinet Spokesperson Bandula Gunawardena emphasized that the government has not issued any such announcement and no such decision has been taken in the cabinet.

In this regard when Fact Seeker enquired from the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Education, H.T. Kushan  Sameera, he said that the Ministry of Education has not taken such a decision and it is a false statement.

Hence, Fact Seeker confirms that this post being shared, as a government notification, is fake.
