SLPI and fact seeker
SLPI is a not for profit media organization that strives to be the lead body representing journalists of both the print and electronic media of Sri Lanka. FactSeeker is established to debunk fake news and aligns with SLPI’s vision of nurturing an informed public committed to democratic ideals. It is one among many avenues of SLPI interventions in arriving at the mission of becoming a role model for media representation in the SAARC region.
Goals and objectives
The goals and objectives of FactSeeker is to ensure the right to accurate information. It promotes a culture of fact-based good journalism in a time where fake news and mis/disinformation and yellow journalism is at its peak. FactSeeker operates to debunk fake news and misinformation and provide the public with an analytical bird’s eye view of the facts in distortion. The unit verifies news items of public interest and those that affect fundamental rights of every citizen.
