A video circulating on social media claims to show Sri Lanka’s former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga dancing during her youth.

Many users have shared this video, commenting and reacting to it, believing that it genuinely shows a young Chandrika performing on stage.

However, upon investigation, there is no official video or record confirming that such footage of Chandrika exists from her youth. A Google Lens scan also failed to provide any credible sources for the video, and some visual inconsistencies were noticed in the clip itself.

Chandrika’s Official Photograph
Further research revealed that a similar photograph had been shared by Chandrika on her official Facebook page. According to the post, the image was taken in 1969 at a cultural event organized by the Sri Lankan Students’ Association in France, where she performed a peacock-themed dance.

AI-Generated Video Mentioned by Original Uploader
In addition, the social media page that originally posted the viral video had explicitly mentioned (AI INFO) that the footage was artificially created using AI technology.

Conclusion
The claim that Sri Lanka’s former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga is seen dancing in this viral video is false. The video was AI-generated using an old photograph that Chandrika herself had shared on her official Facebook page. This highlights the growing use of AI to create misleading content on social media and emphasizes the importance of verifying such material before sharing.
