During the media briefing announcing the cabinet decisions held on October 22 at the Department of Government Information, Cabinet Spokesperson MP Vijitha Herath shared his views on this matter. He stated that due to the limited number of ministers and the election period, neither President Anura Kumara Dissanayake nor the ministers participated in the summit. Instead, he said that officials from the British High Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended the summit.
FactSeeker made an inquiry with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the participation of Nadeeka Guruge’s wife in the summit.
Since the Commonwealth summit is primarily led by the United Kingdom, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the most appropriate attendees would be representatives from the British High Commission. Consequently, the ministry further said that Sri Lanka’s Deputy High Commissioner at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in London Ms. Mallikaratchy, participated in this event.
Ms. Mallikaratchy served as the Deputy High Commissioner at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in London for about two years and has over twenty years of experience as a diplomatic representative prior to that.
