The president of the World Federation of Tamils, Phala Nedumaran, has once again said that the LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran is still alive.
“LTTE leader Prabhakaran is alive and well. Prabhakaran being healthy will give confidence to Elamites. Misinformation has been spread about Prabhakaran. But we are in touch with him,” he was quoted as saying addressing a press briefing in Tanjavur in Tamil Nadu.
Nedumaran added that Prabhakaran’s wife and daughter are also alive, but their whereabouts cannot be announced at present.
When Fact Seeker inquired about this, the Sri Lankan Army said that Prabhakaran died in the final battle on May 18, 2009. Sri Lanka Army spokesperson Brigadier Ravi Herath told FactSeeker that the military has the proof of Prabhakaran’s death.
Indian journalist RK Radhakrishnan has appealed to the public not to fall victim to the false comments about the leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam Velupillai Prabhakaran.
Conclusion
Nedumaran and some other politicians make similar claims once in a while but there is no evidence to prove that Prabhakaran is still alive. In fact, Kumaran Padmanadan briefly took over the leadership of the LTTE following the death of Velupillai Prabhakaran.
Pictures of the dead LTTE leader has been published by national and international media following his death in the final battle with Sri Lanka army in Mullivaikkal.
