News and photographs are circulating on social media stating that Mr. Vijitha Herath of The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has made a statement before the Muslim community that a series of island-wide protests are to be launched in near future as per the success of discussions that were held with the Muslim community against government action over the property of Ibrahim, another suspect of the Easter attack in Sri Lanka on 21.04.2019.
Upon fact-checking it was revealed that the photographs in the posts were from when Mr. Vijitha Herath was sharing dates with a Muslim community in Mawanella Uyanwatta Katigahapitiya mosque who were on Ramadan fasting. The event was from 26th June 2017 that had also been shared on his official Facebook Page.
Thus, the posts about island-wide protests against the government taking over Ibrahim’s property said to be initiated by Mr Vijitha Herath are false.
