Photos and a video is circulating on social media with a Buddha statue in a regimental Headquarters Battalion of Gemunu Watch in Kuruwita being destroyed. The Sri Lanka Army said in a statement that the statue of the Regimental Headquarters Battalion of Gemunu Watch in Kuruwita was created using reeds and paper pulp to be displayed at the annual Vesak and Poson zones in 2014.
Further, after the above image has been displayed in the Vesak zones for many years, it has become unfit for further display. The Statue has been disposed of according to traditional custom with the consultation of Shasthrapathi Panditha Ven. Dombawala Wijegnana thero.
